It took a little more fiddling, but my TS-430S is complete and reassembled.
No fiddling with the paint was necessary, but I had to put the grill clothe back in and the metallic label on the exterior of the top for the VOX controls. Also I had to put the little rubber feet back on it.
To remount all this stuff I needed contact cement. I used to keep some on hand when I was pasting up newsletters and the like by hand, but QuarkXpress eliminated much of the need for the glue. I picked some up this afternoon and glued all the necessary parts back in place.
In the end, I'm very, very happy with the results. The covers look better than I could have imagined. I did get a couple of runs on one side of the bottom cover, but it wasn't broke enough to fix. The top cover isn't perfect, but its waaay nicer than it was. At least the sight of the rig's top no longer makes me wince.
The right rear corner of the top cover still is bent from shipping damage on its way here. The bozo I bought it from packed it in one layer of bubble wrap and threw in a few foam peanuts for good measure. The rig bounced around in the box for two weeks on its way from Hawaii. I'm lucky there wasn't more damage.
Because the hit on the corner of the cover kinda sprung the shape of the corner, I worked it slightly into better shape before painting, but there's no way you would miss it as a hard hit on the corner. I've seen worse.
It's been a good experience to do the covers, and I wont' hesitate to do my next rig, provided I can find the proper paint. The guy who sells the stuff on ebay has a quality product, and its a good match to the original in both texture and color.
