‘Yes, OM, there IS a CW Santa Claus’ …

bugletter

Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, 2 a.m. — Well, there’s reason to celebrate — Yes, OM, there IS a Santa Claus.

As I chronicled in my last entry (if you were awake by the time you finished, that is), I presented my options for action in regard to my damaged Vibroplex 100th Anniversary key. I chose Option C (see previous entry) — basically I wrote the seller and explained the cause (in my humble opinion) for the damage, and stated that I couldn’t in good conscience file a damage claim against the USPS.

adI went ahead and ordered the replacement lever and figured I was out of luck. I was surprised to get a prompt reply and the seller’s offer of about half the costs of the parts. I was tickled at any offer, really — I explained that I wanted to keep the key, not return it. I nicely asked if she would consider chipping in something toward the replacement cost and she immediately sent me the money via paypal.

The seller restored my faith in humanity (at least the part of it that sells on eBay), and I am thankful for reaching a fair resolution.

100TH ANNIVERSARY ON THE AIR (AGAIN). Tonight I checked in on two section nets — the Kentucky Digital Net using PSK, and the Georgia Training Net on CW. As soon as the GTN was done, I slid down to try to catch the Kentucky CW Net, but I arrived in time to hear the NCS’ final QNF.

Rainy weather and my balanced feedline whipping in the wind is playing hell with my SWR … condition normal, hi hi.

Since its winter again, I think I’m going to try to get back to a project I started a couple of years ago — designing an inexpensive individual carrying case for a bug that will protect it but no break the bank. Without a table saw it gets a little tough to do, hi hi. Maybe my best project this week is to work on my CW in preparation for SKN this week.
