Sunday, April 22, 2018 — While I was preparing my last post about the KN4YB right-angle bug, I found out that Tom also has an iambic paddle he’s created, and it too is for sale on eBay. Tom’s eBay seller account did not list one, so I kept a close watch until he posted one for sale a couple of days later. I punched the Buy It Now button without hesitation.
KN4YB’s iambic key features the same workmanship and attention to detail as the right-angle bug featured here previously.
The keying levers use ball bearings and have negligible resistance to movement — beyond the return springs. The key is small is size, slightly larger than the Vibroplex Code Warrior Jr. I’m enjoying the key a great deal, since my main iambic keys have been the Vibroplex Square Racer (chrome) here in the library, and the Vibrocube in the shack.
As far as operating goes, an iambic key is an iambic key. I’m not a lightning-fast CW op, so the differences in keys in high speed operation are somewhat lost on me. After buying KN4YB’s bug, I knew I would also buy his iambic key. I have a weakness for homebrew keys, particularly well made hand-crafted keys, and Tom’s fits the bill and then some.
Oh, and did I mention the price was right? — $119 plus shipping from his home in Florida. Get yours today!
Check out the paddle in Tom’s YouTube video here. Enjoy!
