I have written in this space about my Cross Country SDR 4+ receiver and how much I have enjoyed using it. But I’ve recently been making great use of the WebSDR receivers that are part of the WebSDR.org network.
There are SDR receivers scattered around the country, and just for kicks this week, I brought up an SDR site north of Atlanta and used it during the Georgia CW traffic net I check into.
Now depending on the NCS and the propagation and static crashes, my ability to copy the NCS can vary from night to night. But by using different SDR receiver sites, I can find one that’s copying the NCS far stronger than I am. And as long as the NCS can copy me, I can copy him come hell or high water.
There’s about a half-second delay between hearing the NCS on my Tempo 2020 and thru the SDR site. But its been something of a kick to finally copy the NCS clear and strong … and to hear my own transmitted signal.
EBAY BOOGIE. I’ve listed a few new items from the shack on eBay in an attempt to both clean up and get stuff gone while making some cash. I’m looking forward to getting the shack cleaned up sufficiently to get the new radio in there. I still have quite a bit to do, but you can see the carpet on the floor, and then you can actually open the three drawers of the file cabinet under the right side 4-foot desk.
I’m not sure yet what I’ll wind up doing with the FT-2000, but I’m not likely to sell it right yet. I may just wind up moving it to the library shack.
