Monday, March 1, 2021 — I took time this evening to unbox my Ten-Tec Omni V. The rig is in superb condition, and is equipped with the N4PY chip.
The radio had no filters, however, so I removed the 500 Hz filter from the Paragon and installed it in the Omni V.
My first impressions of the Omni V are favorable; the receiver is quiet, the display is super easy to read. Nearly all the controls are identical to the Paragon; the difference is that there are fewer buttons regarding memory operation and the clock/date/tag functions.
The Omni V and the Paragon were both marketed and sold at the same time, with the Paragon marketed as the top dog. The list price for both rigs was identical — $2245.00
The backup battery in the Omni V is dead; once you remove the radio from power, its memories and settings go out the window.
The external speaker on the Omni V doesn’t work; I suspect its the speaker, but I’ll have to do a little more troubleshooting to confirm that. It works fine with an external speaker.
I still have an extra 500 Hz CW filter in my original shack, so I can put that one back in the Paragon … or sell it seperately, which is pretty much standard procedure. Its hard to work CW on any rig without a CW filter.
