Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, 2:45 p.m. — My capacitors for my Detrola AM AA5 receiver arrived this week though I’ve not taken them out of the package yet. I’ve been purposely neglecting eBay due to my diagnosis of a case of GAS — Gear Acquisition Syndrome. I realized I was getting eBay purchases in the mail and not getting around to opening them; in fact, I still have an SB-102 in the shipping box that I’ve not gotten around to testing.
I have a reason, however: My worktable is full right now. I have the Detrola there, as well as assorted other stuff, including the marvelous HT-18 VFO that I’m dying to try on the air QRP (It would be a great one to couple with the BC-348Q receiver!).
On top of that, I have an electrical problem in this room, which is served by a single outlet (oh, the horrors of owning a home built before it received electricity!). Something happened to the outlet and it died. So far, I don’t think its the breaker. Unfortunately, I have a large printer stand in the corner blocking access to the outlet. And to access the outlet, I’ve got to move all the stuff off that printer stand (which includes my old Win98 PC and monitor, and assorted other stuff, but not a single printer, of course!). To find a place to move that stuff, I have to move the work table. To do that, I have to find a place for the stuff on (and under) the table to live.
Actually, this is my project for the first of the week. I can’t even check the continuity of the electrical outlet with all the stuff in the way, so I’m going to have to move it out to get to it. I put a new outlet there a couple of years ago, and I’m wondering if a left a screw loose, perhaps?
I really need to have at least two unique circuits run to this room — a 110v and a 220v. I’m thinking of calling an electrician, and to have them put in the floor under the shack tables. The electrical panel is six feet away, so I want to keep this wire run simple (read cheap!).
