The Zed Man is back (on the air!) …

Sunday, Dec. 20, 2021

This evening I made my return to the Amateur Radio airwaves from Studio C — a long-awaited return, trust me.

For the first time since the summer months, I did more than monitor my Georgia CW traffic net. It felt great, too!

I had both my Tempo 2020 fired up as well as my Kenwood TS-520S. I’m more familiar with the operation of the Tempo, so I used it rather than the TS-520S.

THE ANTENNA SITUATION. When I had the tree next to the house cut down, I lost my center support for that antenna. About a week after the tree was cut, the crew arrived to put up my new 26 x 41 garage.

In the months since, I’ve been trying to figure out how to put up a new antenna that would place the feedline in reach of Studio C. Well, the simplest solution was to run a feedline from Studio C out to my original inverted Vee on the north side of our house. I didn’t believe my existing feedline would reach the remaining feedline on the dipole, but today I recruited my son and we found that the twinlead would easily reach from Studio C to the existing dipole.

My splicing job isn’t very pretty for now. The conductors on that twinlead aren’t very strong or numerous. But for now its fixed, and I can easily repair it if needed.

After months off the air, it felt absolutely great to be back! I used my little GHD iambic key and my iambic keyer tonight. Just glad to be on the air again.
