This afternoon, my son and I finally got down to business in my original shack and made a significant dent in the start to clean it out and move it upstairs.
Actually, there’s just too much crap to move upstairs. I’m not keeping my bugs, so many (if not most) will be on their way to eBay. I’m going to price these keys are fire sale prices — not that they’re valueless, but because I don’t want them hanging around for sale forever.
The radio desks — the corner desk and the two 4-foot matching desks on each side of the corner desk — will be used upstairs. Not all the radio gear is going upstairs, however.
Lest we forget, I still have a BRAND NEW Yaesu FTDX-101MP in the box, awaiting installation in Studio C — if I ever get Studio C in shape.
I really can’t complain too loudly about radios, I’m not exactly radio poor.
The ICOM IC-756PROII is doing a beautiful job on the operating desk. Its on top of my Drake TR-7. I still have the Kenwood TS-530S and the Tempo 2020 with VFO on the desk as well.
I miss operating my Yaesu FT–2000. Its just a really sweet rig to operate, even without a bandscope. I’m hoping the 101MP will be as nice.
I also two antennas that are new in the box — a six meter 5/8 vertical, and a VHF/UHF dual band antenna. My interest in local VHF right now is pretty much nil. I would like to get the 6 meter antenna up this year.
I’ve been hearing signals on 6 meters breaking through from time to time. 10 meters has been active too. I’m going to have to do more hamming outside my CW traffic net hours. That’s been the extent of my hamming the last few years, that and listening via web-based SDRs, which is pretty fun on its own.
I dont’ use it a great deal, but I really like the Xiegu 6100. I checked in a few times on my CW net when the band wasn’t super noisy. Not bad for 10 watts.
RESULTS? With the help of my son, we made quite a bit of headway in the shack.
I’ve decided to pack all my bugs and separate them into the “keepers” and the “sellers.” I’ll pack the sellers in the garage and pack them for sale there. Well, that goes for anything I put on eBay, I suppose.
